Dealing with a conflict of interest (Toowoomba)

This half-day course is designed to help officers who are wanting to make good decisions that will withstand allegations of actual or perceived bias.  Discover the skills you need to help you identify and deal with a potential conflict of interest, the steps you should take to be transparent, who you should discuss your concerns with and how your discussion should be recorded.

Content

This course helps participants identify a potential conflict of interest and manage it appropriately.  Having a conflict of interest is not unlawful or unreasonable but failing to identify a conflict can lead to significant problems and may mean that any decisions that are made have to be set aside and remade once a conflict is exposed.  it examines the circumstances when conflicts are likely to arise by using practical, real examples and takes participants through a step-by-step approach of what they should do and how their own reputation and that of their agency can be protected.

Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • understand what potential conflicts are
  • identify the circumstances that could later develop as either a damaging actual or perceived conflict of interest
  • apply the principles of good-decision making to potential conflicts
