Time to shine a light on privacy

Privacy protection in the age of AI is the focus for Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) from 4–10 May 2026. During this week we join the Office of the Information Commissioner in highlighting the importance for both public sector agencies and the community to protect and respect personal information.

This year’s theme, Smart tech, smarter choices: Protecting your privacy in the age of AI, focuses on the decisions we make as we use the latest technology and tools and the impact they can have on our privacy, particularly with the growth in use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT) are becoming widely used in the community. If you are thinking of making a complaint to our office and choose to use these kinds of tools to help you prepare your complaint, or request for an internal review, it is important you understand the process and risks.

Generative AI tools cannot understand the facts of your individual situation or be relied on for factual information.  When you provide your personal information to AI tools, it may be retained and incorporated by the AI system, for use in its training dataset.

You do not need to use generative AI tools to make a good complaint.

We are looking for:

  • a straight-forward description of the action or decision you are complaining about
  • which Queensland agency was responsible for the action
  • what is your direct interest in the matter.

Find more information about things to be aware of when using generative AI tools for complaints on our webpage  Using AI tools for complaints
