NAIDOC Week 2025

07 Jul 2025 News
It’s NAIDOC Week (6-13 July) celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia.

This year marks a powerful milestone: honouring 50 years of elevating Australian First Nations voices, culture and resilience. With the theme - The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy celebrating the achievements of the past, and the bright future ahead with the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities and legacy of ancestors.

Our Detention Services Inspection Unit (DSIU) Engagement team said the theme calls for Australia to reflect on our collective responsibility to ensure that culture, identity and connection to Country are passed on with integrity and pride.

“It also honours the legacy of Elders, empowers the voices of today, and supports the rising generations who will shape tomorrow.”

Last year our Office staffed a stall for the first time at the NAIDOC Week event at Musgrave Park with staff eager to learn more about Aboriginal culture and Torres Strait Islander culture while sharing information about the services we offer to support these communities.

This year we have stalls at NADOIC Week events at Musgrave Park and the Kingston Butter Factory at Logan offering cultural activities to event goers.

One of our project officers from the Training Services Team is participating for the first time this year and shared why she decided to attend.

“I’ve heard fantastic things about the food, art, friendship, and community present at past NAIDOC Days, and I’m excited to experience all these at Logan on Tuesday,” she said.

“I enjoy engaging with people and can’t wait to talk with the public about this Office and the work we do.

“I’ve always wanted to involve myself in learning more about First Nations people and culture and make connections within that community.”

One of our Senior Advisors, Engagement, DSIU said NAIDOC is important for all people.

“It not only celebrates the history and ongoing achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but it gives a connection that may not have been there before.

“Whether you are Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, both, or neither, it brings us together to celebrate and appreciate culture that will contribute to a continued connectedness as we all move forward together.”
