Consultation open for Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre

We are currently undertaking an inspection of the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre.

As part of our inspection process, we invite feedback about this centre from people with lived experience, such as:

- women who have previously been detained at the centre
- staff
- family members
- service providers and partner organisations.

It is our commitment to engage with people with lived experience to help us understand how detention practices and services provided impact people in detention. These insights will then inform our recommendations to promote and uphold the humane treatment and conditions of women who have been detained at the centre and prevent them from being subjected to harm.

About the Inspector
Under the Inspector of Detention Services Act 2022, the Queensland Ombudsman, Mr Anthony Reilly, is also the Inspector of Detention Services.

Under the Act, the Inspector must inspect each prison every 5 years. The goal of the Act is promoting the humane treatment of detainees and the prevention of harm through reviews, inspections and independent reporting.
